The Ontario Veterinary College invites you to come to the 'Source' for the latest updates in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery. Keep current on the newest medical and surgical knowledge and procedures. Keep up-to-date on current research topics, see the new and projected facilities and meet the faculty.


NB: Please do not make flight reservations until the course you are registering in is confirmed. Confirmation depends on the number of registrants which varies with each course. You will receive a confirmation either by phone, fax or email. Lifelearn reserves the right to cancel a course, in which case a full course refund only will be paid. All other costs will be paid by the registrant. For registrations that you wish to cancel, a 90% refund less deposit will be issued up to 30 days prior to the course. No refunds will be issued after that date except under special circumstances, when the maximum refund is 50%.

Feline Medicine

Update re Management of Diabetes Mellitus in Cats
Alice Defarges DVM MSc DAVCIM

This session will focus on the use of Glargine in cats and the monitoring of diabetes in feline patients. The review will be based on diabetic cases.


Feline Nutrition
Marie Holowaychuk DVM DACVECC

Cats differ from dogs in terms of their nutritional needs and consequences of malnutrition. As such, the provision of adequate nutrition to cats is exceedingly important. During this session, the unique nutritional requirements of cats will be discussed including practical recommendations for cats with inappetence. Cases will be presented with a focus on critically ill cats such as those with hepatic lipidosis, trauma, and chronic kidney disease. The focus will be on enteral nutrition with an emphasis on feeding tube placement and determining and implementing the nutritional plan.

Current Trends in Feline Pain Management
Paulo Steagall MV Ms PhD

Pain management has been recognized as an essential component of clinical care in the cat. In this discussion, a case series will be presented emphasizing different aspects of analgesic treatment in this species including clinical signs, analgesic dose regimens and its routes of administration, new analgesic techniques and future trends in feline pain management. The session will also provide an overview of the current literature and recommendations for pharmacologic interventions such as the use of buprenorphine, gabapentin and NSAIDs in cats.

Ophthalmology
Chantale Pinard DVM MSc Diplomate ACVO

The feline eye has many particularities that make it distinctive in the ophthalmology world. During this session, ocular conditions and diseases unique to the cat will be discussed. Cases will be presented with a focus on diagnosis and treatment including follow-up recommendations and prognosis.

Itchy cat, itchy cat what are they feeding you? – Diagnostic and Therapeutic Approach to the Pruritic Cat
Anthony Yu DVM MS DACVD

An update and review of the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to the allergic cat. From new treatment options for flea allergies, to the "ins-and-outs" of adverse food reactions and lastly, options for tackling environmental allergies that aren't given by injection and don't start with "D" and end with "epo-Medrol". Yes, there is more to feline dermatology than Depo-Medrol in one syringe and Convenia in the other...or is there?

Lymphoma
Paul Woods DVM MS DACVIM (Internal Medicine Oncology)

Current scientific evidence-based information about the diagnosis and management of feline lymphoma will be applied in a clinical setting using actual cases to discuss recent diagnostic techniques, therapies, and prognoses.
